Abstract

The paper deals with a polymorphic serum protein system; the Gm System. The distribution of the allotypes and haplotypes among the human races and populations raises the question of what selective forces migh be involved in their propogation. Since antigens are associated with antibody-forming molecules, it is tempting to think as opined by Steinterg, that molecules with different Gm types differ in their capacities to form effective antibodies against various pathogens. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to review the investigations of the possible association between different diseases and Gm allotypes.
